KAYA SCHMANDT, PSYD, EdM

Dr. Kaya Schmandt is a clinical psychologist who treats children, adolescents, and adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma disorders, and personality disorders. She has foundational training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), intensive training in DBT prolonged exposure (DBT-PE) for post-traumatic stress disorder, and training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Dr. Schmandt is also a rostered provider of Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence-based treatment for young children who have experienced trauma or attachment disruptions.
Dr. Schmandt graduated from Brown University with a ScB in biology. She received her EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in prevention science & practice, with a focus on adolescent counseling. Dr. Schmandt received her PsyD in clinical psychology from William James College. She has experience working with youth and adults across a range of settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and schools. Dr. Schmandt completed her predoctoral internship at Riverbend Community Mental Health, where her training focused on the impacts of childhood trauma across the lifespan. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the 3East Residential DBT program at McLean Hospital, where she worked with adolescents and young adults with suicidal and self-injurious behaviors.
Dr. Schmandt is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), APA Division 56 (Trauma Psychology), and the Massachusetts Psychological Association (MPA).
